For Release: May 31, 2005

The Bureau of Reclamation has signed a Record of Decision identifying the Restricted Access Alternative 2 from the Final EIS as the long-term management of the Folsom Dam Road. This represents a final decision by Reclamation for public access on the road.

The decision to select the Restricted Access Alternative reflects an on going collaborative process between Reclamation and the City of Folsom. Implementation of a restricted access alternative will require the City of Folsom to comply with stringent Reclamation security measures and be responsible for all associated costs. This alternative generally allows traffic to cross the Dam Road during morning and evening commute hours.

Under the selected alternative, the road could be closed due to on-going construction, maintenance and operational requirements deemed necessary by Reclamation. Folsom Dam and downstream interests will continue to be fully protected under the selected alternative.

The Record of Decision (ROD) is available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp. For questions on the ROD, please contact Robert Schroeder at 916-989-7274. For copies or other information, please call Julie Carpenter at 916-978-5109.
