Bureau of Reclamation Inviting Public to Learn about Potential New Water Treatment Technologies at Research Facility in Alamogordo, New Mexico

Six groups are bringing new, innovative technologies to pitch Reclamation on why they should receive federal funding to further develop their project

Brackish Groundwater National Desalination Research Facility in Alamogordo, New Mexico.WASHINGTON - The Bureau of Reclamation is hosting a pitch-to-pilot event at its Brackish Groundwater National Desalination Research Facility in Alamogordo, New Mexico. This unique event was designed to identify and fund innovative water treatment technologies for enhancing existing freshwater supplies in the United States.

The new, innovative projects are:

• Flexible Low-Energy Reverse Osmosis - University of California Los Angeles
• Enhanced Recovery from Impaired Water Resources: Field-Scale Validation of Hybrid Ion Exchange-Membrane (HIX-M) Desalination Process - Lehigh University
• Development of Novel Photobiological Process to Improve Water Recovery in Brackish Groundwater Desalination - Pacific Advanced Civil Engineering, Inc.
• Pilot Evaluation of a Sustainable Autonomous Brackish Groundwater Desalination System - University of North Texas and New Mexico State University
• Low-Cost Recovery of Blowdown Water in Power Generation Facilities - University of Texas at El Paso
• Pilot-Testing of Third-Generation Capacitive Deionization with Polarized Electrodes - Mespilus, Inc.

The public may learn more about the projects on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thirty minute tours of the facility will be provided from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., that same day. If you would like to attend, please register online.

The Brackish Groundwater National Desalination Research Facility (BGNDRF) is a focal point for developing technologies for the desalination of brackish and impaired groundwater found in the inland states. It is located in Alamogordo, New Mexico. It was opened on August 16, 2007. This facility brings together researchers from other Federal government agencies, universities, the private sector, research organizations, and state and local agencies to work collaboratively and in partnership.
