Releases in the Lower American River to Increase

Media Contact: Jeffrey S. McCracken, 916-978-5100, jmccracken@mp.usbr.gov

For Release: May 19, 2005

Between 2-3 p.m., today, Thursday, May 19, 2005, the Bureau of Reclamation will increase releases to the Lower American River below Nimbus Dam from 15,000 to 25,000 cubic feet per second (cfs). The flow increase is for flood control and inflow management. This release schedule, based on the current forecast, is subject to change. Flows are expected to remain high due to runoff.

Recreationists on or along the Lower American River are advised to exercise caution due to higher and colder river flow conditions. The river will rise an additional 2.5 feet at 25,000 cfs to 13.8 feet of elevation.

As conditions change, operational updates will be provided. For additional information, please contact Mr. Paul Fujitani, Central Valley Operations Office, at 916-979-2197 (TDD 916-979-2183) or e-mail: pfujitani@mp.usbr.gov.
