For Release: September 01, 2016

SONORA, Calif. - The Bureau of Reclamation wants visitors to know that due to drought conditions, the Glory Hole concrete boat ramp at New Melones Lake may be closed during the Labor Day Holiday Weekend if the lake level reaches 865 feet elevation. As of Wednesday, August 31, the lake’s elevation was 866.87 feet .

The nearby Glory Hole Point gravel boat ramp is available, and a courtesy dock is in service. Four-wheel drive vehicles are strongly recommended when using the gravel boat ramp.

Water levels at the lake fluctuate frequently, and Reclamation encourages all boaters to use caution while navigating the reservoir. Natural features will emerge as the lake’s surface elevation continues to gradually drop due to drought conditions. Boaters are required to maintain speeds of no more than 5 miles per hour within 200 feet of any island or the shoreline. Wearing life jackets while on the water will help visitors have a safe and enjoyable day on the lake.
