For Release: August 26, 2016

BILLINGS, Mont. -- In support of the ongoing dam safety modifications work at Nelson Dikes, the reservoir has been drawn down to an approximate elevation of 2205 feet. The reservoir will be maintained at this elevation until at least October 15, 2016. At this elevation there are no usable established boat launching facilities. Due to the ongoing construction work, refilling the reservoir is unlikely to occur until spring 2017, and will depend upon available water supplies. Current reservoir levels can be found at www.usbr.gov/gp-bin/arcweb_nelr.pl.

Temporary road closures and/or detours around the dikes are not to be expected at this time.

An Environmental Assessment (EA) for the modification has been finalized and a Finding of No Significant Impact FONSI) has been signed. The public can access the final EA and FONSI on Reclamation's website at www.usbr.gov/gp/mtao/nelson/.
