Media Contact: Jeffrey S. McCracken, 916-978-5100, jmccracken@mp.usbr.gov

For Release: May 16, 2005

Between 10 and 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2005, the Bureau of Reclamation will increase releases in the Lower American River below Nimbus Dam from 8,200 to 12,000 cubic feet per second (cfs). The flow increase is for flood control and inflow management. This release schedule, based on the current forecast is subject to change. Flows are expected to remain high due to runoff.

Recreationists on or along the Lower American River are advised to exercise caution due to higher and colder river flow conditions. The flow in the river will rise about 2 feet at 12,000 cfs.

As conditions change, operational updates will be provided. For additional information, please contact Mr. Paul Fujitani, Central Valley Operations Office, at 916-979-2197 (TDD 916-979-2183), or e-mail: pfujitani@mp.usbr.gov.
