For Release: March 16, 2004

The Bureau of Reclamation and Placer County Water Agency (PCWA), on behalf of the local cost-sharing partners, which include the City of Roseville, City of Sacramento and Sacramento Suburban Water District, have made available the Public Scoping Report for the Sacramento River Water Reliability Study (SRWRS). This report provides information on the SRWRS and discusses the scoping process and public participation. Reclamation, the lead Federal agency, and PCWA, the local lead agency, are preparing a joint Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) for the SRWRS. The environmental document will focus on assessing the environmental impacts of the alternative water supply plan, which include a diversion, water treatment plant, and transmission pipelines, to meet the identified water supply reliability gaps of the local agencies. The draft environmental document is expected to be available summer 2005.

The purpose of the SRWRS is to develop a water supply plan that is consistent with the Water Forum objectives of pursuing a Sacramento River diversion to meet the water supply needs of the Placer-Sacramento region and promoting ecosystem preservation along the lower American River.

Public participation will continue through the anticipated completion date of the SRWRS - fall 2005. For additional information or to request a copy of the scoping report, please contact Sammie Cervantes, Reclamation Public Affairs Office, at 916-978-5104, TDD 916-978-5608, or scervantes@mp.usbr.gov. The scoping report will be made available online at www.usbr.gov/mp/srwrs.
