The Bureau of Reclamation is partnering with the City of Firebaugh and the California Conservation Corps to sponsor a clean up of the San Joaquin River on Saturday, April 3, 2004, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteer sign-in and registration will be held at Andrew Firebaugh Historical Park, in Firebaugh, between 8 and 10:00 a.m.

Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Experienced and first-time river cleanup volunteers of all ages are needed. Each group will have experienced leaders to provide a safety orientation and guide the clean-up. Volunteers are asked to wear long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy shoes. A lunch will be provided free of charge to all river clean-up volunteers between 12 and 1 p.m.

The community cleanup day will be held in recognition of the National "Take Pride in America" campaign, where Federal agencies partner with local organizations and citizens to improve surrounding communities, and as a part of the Statewide "Keep California Beautiful" campaign.

Volunteers include individuals from water districts, local businesses and organizations, and the California Conservation Corps. Once the community clean-up program is completed, efforts will be pursued to support programs that encourage the public to keep the San Joaquin River free of trash.
