DURANGO, Colo. – The Bureau of Reclamation will begin drilling at Navajo Dam on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 to conduct geologic assessments on the downstream slope of the dam. This work will allow Reclamation to characterize foundation materials and enable long term monitoring of groundwater.

Construction equipment traffic will be visible on or around the dam during drilling. Drilling activities will produce loud noises along with flying dust and possibly water flowing from drill holes. All of these are normal and expected during this type of project. Drilling is expected to be complete in August 2016.
