For Release: March 16, 2016

REDDING, Calif. - The Bureau of Reclamation prepared an Environmental Assessment for the Bella Vista Water District Advanced Metering and Water Conservation Improvements project. The EA details Reclamation’s proposed $199,938 WaterSMART grant to the district for funding to improve water conservation efforts.

The grant would partially fund the replacement of approximately 80 water meters on existing service connections, purchase and install advanced meter reading registers and portable flow meters, provide smart irrigation controllers for district water users, and help fund contracts for auditing services. Once completed, the project could conserve up to 350 acre-feet of water annually.

Reclamation proposes to provide funds to Bella Vista Water District through the WaterSMART Water and Energy Efficiency Grant program. The program allows Reclamation to provide cost-shared funding on a competitive basis for projects that seek to conserve and use water more efficiently, increase the use of renewable energy, address endangered species and other environmental issues, and facilitate transfers to new uses.
