To enhance the protection of the Chain of Lakes Area, the Bureau of Reclamation has posted new rules and regulations to ensure minimal environmental impacts and the highest possible level of public safety by those visiting the area.

The Chain of Lakes Area is an increasingly popular destination for all kinds of recreationists. Thousands of people visit each year to enjoy its incredible fishing, hunting, camping, boating and beautiful scenery.

"These newly posted rules and regulations will enable us to protect the long-term health and sustainability of the Chain of Lakes Area," said Dakotas Area Office Manager Dennis Breitzman. "We want to inform visitors of these changes so they may assist us in protecting our public lands for everyone to enjoy," added Breitzman.

Breitzman said along with the new rules and regulations, additional changes to the area are in the works for the upcoming recreation season. These changes include camping sites in the Chain of Lakes to be designated by fiberglass composite posts and there will be fire rings at each designated camping site. Camping will be allowed only within these designated areas and fires must be built only within the provided fire rings. The complete list of rules and regulations are posted by most entrances. On each entrance sign and kiosk there are brochures that list the rules and regulations.

The rules and regulations are intended to govern the conduct of guests while visiting the McClusky Canal Chain of Lakes Area, including East and West Park, Heckers and New Johns lakes.

The Chain of Lakes Area is a beautiful area provided for your enjoyment. We trust you will help us in their proper use and care. Enforcement of the newly posted rules and regulations will be conducted by the McClean, Burleigh and Sheridan county Sheriff Departments and will begin over Memorial Day.
