For Release: June 07, 2004

Reclamation, in cooperation with the National Park Service (NPS), will hold a functional emergency exercise at Whiskeytown Dam, part of the Trinity River Division of the Central Valley Project.

The exercise will start on Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at 8 a.m. at the Whiskeytown Dam and Reservoir.

The purpose of the exercise is to test Reclamation and NPS, along with local emergency response agencies, when faced with a natural or man-made emergency at the dam. Citizens in the vicinity of Whiskeytown Dam and Reservoir during the exercise may see or hear emergency response vehicles. Access to Kennedy Memorial Drive and Carr Powerhouse Roads will be temporarily controlled for the duration of the exercise, expected to end around noon.

Whiskeytown Lake, part of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, provides 36 miles of shoreline and 3,200 surface acres of water. It is used for most water-related activities, and for picnicking, hiking, hunting, and horseback riding.
