For Release: December 11, 2015

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation has released the final environmental document for the Upper Truckee River and Marsh Restoration Project in El Dorado County, California.

Under the National Environmental Policy Act, the California Environmental Quality Act, Article VII of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Compact, and Chapter 5 of the TRPA Code of Ordinances, Reclamation, the California Tahoe Conservancy and TRPA have developed a Final Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Statement (Final EIR/EIS/EIS) for the Upper Truckee River and Marsh Restoration Project.

The purpose of the proposed action is to restore natural geomorphic processes and improve ecological functions and values in this lowest reach of the Upper Truckee River and the surrounding marsh. Restoration of the Upper Truckee River Marsh would reduce the discharge of nutrients and sediment to Lake Tahoe, helping to improve Lake Tahoe’s clarity. Reclamation is providing grant funds to the Conservancy for planning purposes and may provide funding for construction of the project.

Reclamation will not make a decision on the proposed action until at least 30 days after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency publishes a notice in the Federal Register regarding release of the Final EIR/EIS/EIS. Once Reclamation makes a decision regarding funding activities at the marsh, Reclamation will complete a Record of Decision documenting its decision stating the action that will be implemented and discussing all factors leading to the decision.

The Final EIR/EIS/EIS may be viewed at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=2937. If you encounter problems accessing the documents online, please call 916-978-5100 or email mppublicaffairs@usbr.gov.
