Shane Hunt Selected as Public Affairs Officer for the Bureau of Reclamation’s Mid-Pacific Region

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – David Murillo, Regional Director for the Bureau of Reclamation’s Mid-Pacific Region, announces the selection of Shane Hunt as the Region’s Public Affairs Officer. In this position, Hunt will manage the Region’s public affairs, public involvement and public education programs. He will also be responsible for internal communications and media and congressional relations.

“I’m very pleased to announce Shane’s selection as the Region’s Public Affairs Officer,” stated Murillo. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with him both here in the Region and in Washington DC and know him to be highly qualified for this critical position based on his experience, education, integrity and communication skills.”

As the Washington DC liaison for the Mid-Pacific Region from 2012 to 2014 and subsequently as Reclamation’s liaison to the Department of the Interior’s Office of the Assistant Secretary for Water and Science until 2015, Hunt coordinated numerous activities and briefings for high-level executives and administrators. He has represented Reclamation and the Department of the Interior in numerous venues, working with a wide variety of agencies; Congressional offices; federal, state, local and tribal governments; and public interest groups.

Hunt began his career with Reclamation in 2005 in the Mid-Pacific Region’s South-Central California Area Office in Fresno as a Natural Resources Specialist. He then worked in the Division of Environmental Affairs in Sacramento from 2006-2010 on numerous environmental compliance activities associated with the Central Valley Project and the San Joaquin River Restoration Program. From 2010-2012, Hunt was a Special Assistant in the Regional Director’s Office, working on a variety of special projects throughout the Region in preparation for his two-year assignment as the liaison in Washington DC.

Prior to joining Reclamation, Hunt worked as an Environmental Specialist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Galveston, Texas. He has both a Master’s Degree in Marine Resources Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University in Galveston.
