For Release: April 08, 2005

The Bureau of Reclamation and Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) have made available the Initial Alternatives Report (IAR) for the Sacramento River Water Reliability Study (SRWRS). Reclamation and PCWA, on behalf of third party cost-sharing partners including Sacramento Suburban Water District and the cities of Roseville and Sacramento, initiated the SRWRS in 2002. The goal of the SRWRS is to develop a water supply plan that is consistent with the Sacramento Area Water Forum vision of a sustainable water supply to meet planned development in the Sacramento Region while promoting the Lower American River ecosystem.

The purpose of the IAR is to document study findings to date, including identified resource problems and opportunities; planning goals and objectives, criteria, and constraints; and alternatives for the development of the study. It is anticipated that the IAR will provide the basis for the Feasibility Report that includes a Planning Report and an Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report to be used for Federal and local decision-making.

The IAR is available online at www.usbr.gov/mp/srwrs/f_documents.html. For additional information or to request a hard copy, please contact Ms. Sammie Cervantes, Reclamation Public Affairs Specialist at 916-978-5104; or you may contact Mona Jefferies-Soniea, Reclamation's Project Manager, at 916-978-5068 or mjefferiessoniea@mp.usbr.gov.
