The Bureau of Reclamation has finalized the Environmental Assessment (EA) and the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Cool Cave Quarry Public Safety, Land Reclamation, and Mining Lease Project. The EA addresses the impacts of Reclamation entering into a 10-year lease with Teichert Aggregates for 16 acres of Federal land adjacent to the Cool Cave Quarry.

The quarry is located 4 air miles southeast of Auburn, California, on the south rim of the Middle Fork of the American River in El Dorado County. The Final EA describes the environmental effects of the project which proposes limestone removal, reclamation, and stabilization of previously mined areas. The Final EA and FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act. The EA/FONSI are available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=1686. To request a paper copy of the EA/FONSI or for more information, please contact Ms. Mary Grim, Environmental Specialist, Bureau of Reclamation, Central California Area Office, 7794 Folsom Dam Road, Folsom, CA 95630-1799, phone 916-978-5204, or e-mail mgrim@mp.usbr.gov.
