Boulder City, NV — The Department of the Interior issued a statement of support today for the proactive measures announced by California Governor Edmund G. Brown in an effort to identify solutions to the challenges posed by the Salton Sea in southern California.

"The Governor’s establishment of a state lead for the Salton Sea demonstrates the importance of this issue to the State of California," Interior’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Water and Science, Jennifer Gimbel said. "We commend Governor Brown for this decision and stand ready to support the state as it takes action to identify and implement a restoration vision that is practical, implementable, and affordable."

The Bureau of Reclamation’s Lower Colorado Region has been active in recent years as part of DOI’s efforts to partner with California state agencies, interested irrigation districts, other federal agencies and the Salton Sea Authority in providing technical expertise and funding towards mitigating the environmental decline of the Salton Sea.
