FOLSOM, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation has released for public review a Draft Environmental Assessment for the Proposed Nimbus Dam Radial Gates Maintenance Project. The project would implement needed maintenance at the Nimbus Dam due to dam gate degradation and corrosion of the coating system and lifting bracket assembly.

The proposed maintenance activities would ensure Nimbus Dam maintains the required security, public safety, flood control and flow maintenance capabilities as part of the Central Valley Project. In addition, associated installation of a prefabricated bulkhead storage facility would be constructed to ensure the safety and longevity of the bulkhead equipment used for the operation and preservation of Nimbus Dam. The facility would be constructed beginning in July 2015 and would be completed March 2016.

Maintenance activities would be implemented beginning July 2015. All work is expected to be completed by September 2019. Public access to the American River Bike Trail at the California State University of Sacramento’s Aquatic Center will be diverted around the bike trail via the existing parking area during the installation of the BSF. No work would occur within the American River downstream of the Nimbus Dam.

The Draft Environmental Assessment was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and is available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=21483.
