Reclamation Releases Draft Environmental Documents for James Irrigation District’s Grants and Proposed Water Banking Expansion Project

FRESNO, Calif. ­­­– The Bureau of Reclamation has released for public review the Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for the proposed grants to James Irrigation District to partially fund the modification and expansion of an existing regulation/recharge/banking area within the James Bypass.

The grant would fund the excavation of an existing basin, construction of new levees with associated canals and turnouts, enhancement of existing levees, installation of booster pumps, installation of control structures, installation of interconnecting pipelines, installation of siphons to cross underneath the James Bypass Main Channel and installation of up to five new wells with associated pipelines.

The grant would also fund the installation of new gates to the existing check structure (located within James Irrigation District’s Main Canal), construction of an earthen water control structure and various other features.
