SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Bureau of Reclamation has released for public review a draft Environmental Assessment for the Firebaugh Canal Water District Canal Modernization and Lining Project partially funded by a $300,000 grant through the CALFED Water Use Efficiency Grants Program.

The 2nd Lift Canal Modernization and Lining Project Phase 4 program entails the concrete lining of approximately two miles of the 2nd Lift Canal of the Firebaugh Canal Water District Lift System from Washoe Avenue to Douglas Avenue. The Project would also update control structures in order to reduce seepage losses, reduce subsurface drain water discharges to the local perched saline water table, and improve water management capabilities.

The Project will improve water management and enable the District’s growers to convert to high-efficiency irrigation systems. The Project is located south of the community of Firebaugh, within the Firebaugh Canal Water District.

The draft EA was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and is available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=19661. If you encounter problems accessing the document, please call 916-978-5100 or email mppublicaffairs@usbr.gov.
