Temporary Closure of Lake Berryessa Pleasure Cove Resort

Media Contact: Jeffrey McCracken, 916-978-5100, jmccracken@mp.usbr.gov

For Release: March 28, 2005

The Bureau of Reclamation has temporarily closed the Pleasure Cove Resort (Resort) at Lake Berryessa, California. Effective March 28, 2005, the contract with the Resort's concessionaire, Pleasure Cove Resort Asset Management Group, LLC (PCRAMG), was terminated in whole. This termination is the result of the PCRAMG's failure to meet multiple deadlines required to submit the Performance Bond of $750,000.

Reclamation has been exploring options to reopen the Resort and provide recreational services on an interim basis. Several potential Resort operators have been identified, and Reclamation has been working to finalize a new interim contract. Once an interim contractor has been selected, the Resort can be reopened. Reclamation is unable to operate the Resort without a qualified contractor, due in large part to potential liability and financial considerations.

While the Resort is closed, Reclamation has contracted with a security firm to provide 24-hour security services at the Resort. The concession facilities, private trailers, and docks will not be available for use by the permittees or the general public. Permittees with proof of ownership will only be allowed to enter the Resort to remove personal property during the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday though Friday. Should permittees choose to remove their trailers, they will need permits from the California Department of Transportation and Napa County.
