SONORA, Calif. The Bureau of Reclamation announces a business opportunity for marina concession development and operation at New Melones Lake. Reclamation is requesting proposals from interested parties for the development, and long-term management and operation of concession facilities and services at the Glory Hole Recreation Area at New Melones Lake, located in Calaveras County, Calif. This business will be conducted under the terms and conditions of a concession contract between the successful bidder and Reclamation.

Reclamation envisions a new concession operation with required services that includes a marina with marine fuel, wastewater pumpout, pleasure craft rentals, commercial houseboat rentals, pleasure craft slip rentals, private slip rentals for houseboats, and seasonal mooring ball rentals. Additional required services include retail sales, overnight cabin/yurt sites, full-service RV sites, on-site parking, dry boat storage, and marine mechanic services. Land-based support facilities will include paved and unpaved roads, a marina access ramp, parking lots, lighting, restroom facilities and landscaping. Some facilities will be provided by Reclamation.

The New Melones Concession Prospectus provides a business opportunity for the development of new long-term commercial recreation services and support facilities in an expanded area within the Glory Hole Recreation Area. Reclamation will provide an opportunity for prospective offerors to tour the existing facilities, see the proposed marina location and expanded concession area, and submit questions regarding this concession business opportunity. The site visit will be held on Friday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. Participants will meet at the New Melones Lake Administrative Center, 6850 Studhorse Flat Road, Sonora, CA 95370, 209-536-9094 (location map).

New Melones Lake is located in the northern Sierra foothills in the Southern Mother Lode, approximately eight miles south of Angels Camp in Calaveras County and six miles north of the town of Sonora in Tuolumne County. New Melones Lake is within a short drive of other attractions such as Calaveras Big Trees State Park and Yosemite National Park. It is a popular camping, boating and stopping point along Highway 49 and is readily accessible by millions of potential visitors. It is within a three-hour drive of the San Francisco Bay area, Sacramento and other municipalities in Central California.
