For Release: November 06, 2014

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation in September 2014 hosted three public meetings to present information and receive comments on the proposed revision to the Standard Criteria for Evaluating Water Management Plans. Reclamation has updated the Standard Criteria in response to the Central Valley Project Improvement Act of 1992 and in accordance with the Reclamation Reform Act of 1982. The purpose of the Standard Criteria is to promote the highest efficiency of water delivery.

Section 210 of the Reclamation Reform Act requires contractors to prepare and submit Water Management Plans with definite goals, appropriate water conservation measures, and timetables. Contractors are required to submit Plans every five years to be evaluated against the Standard Criteria by the Mid-Pacific Regional Water Conservation Office. Section 3405(e) of the CVPIA requires that the Standard Criteria be reviewed every three years and revised, if necessary. The last revision of the Standard Criteria occurred in 2011.
