For Release: March 24, 2005

The annual filling of Alcova Reservoir will begin on Monday, April 4, 2005, according to John H. Lawson, Area Manager of the Wyoming Area Office, Bureau of Reclamation, in Mills, Wyoming. During April, the reservoir will rise approximately 10 feet to the summer operating level. The rate of rise will average approximately 5 inches per day. Upon reaching the summer operating level, the reservoir will remain between elevation 5497 and 5499 feet until October 1, 2005. This increase in reservoir level will be completed by May 1 and will facilitate irrigation deliveries to the Casper-Alcova Irrigation District and benefit summer recreational activities at Alcova Reservoir.

Recreationists are advised to take proper precautions associated with the rising reservoir level, and boat dock owners are reminded that repairs to their boat docks should be completed before the reservoir elevation is raised.
