Reclamation Announces Opening of Canyon Ferry Visitor Center

BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Bureau of Reclamation invites the public to the Canyon Ferry Visitor Center during the 2014 recreation season. The Visitor Center has been closed since 2007 due to staffing constraints. Through a cooperative agreement between Reclamation and the Montana Conservation Corps, the visitor center will be staffed by interns from June 21 thru September 1. Visitor Center hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"Reclamation is pleased to offer an option for additional information about the extensive natural and recreational resources at Canyon Ferry," said Shawn Bryant, Assistant Facility Operations Specialist, "This is an excellent opportunity to provide services to the public, while providing employment opportunities and experience to young adults interested in careers in recreation and natural resource management."
The Visitor Center, located on Canyon Ferry Road across from Reclamation's Offices, is a historic two room school house built in the early 1900's. The center offers exhibits and a video about construction of the Canyon Ferry Dam and Powerplant; displays related to Lewis and Clark's journey through Montana; and information about wildlife that inhabit the lands and waters of Canyon Ferry reservoir.
