Reclamation Releases Final Environmental Document for Trinity River Channel Rehabilitation Project

WEAVERVILLE, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation has released the Final Environmental Assessment/Initial Study on the Trinity River Channel Rehabilitation Project at the Bucktail and Lower Junction City sites as part of the Trinity River Restoration Program.
The project would enhance aquatic habitat quality and complexity through construction of slow water rearing habitat for juvenile salmon and steelhead, reconnection of the floodplain with the river, revegetation of native plants, and placement of in-river wood structures to react with flow and create/maintain habitat.
The Bucktail and the Lower Junction City sites are on the mainstem of the Trinity River. The Bucktail site is located near the Bucktail Bridge in Lewiston, Calif. and the Lower Junction City site, downstream of the Dutch Creek Bridge in Junction City.
The TRRP will permit and construct the Lower Junction City Project as designed in the summer 2014.
The TRRP will be re-assessing the Bucktail Channel Rehabilitation Project by developing a strategic plan to implement the Bucktail project in coordination with the proposed Bucktail Bridge replacement.
The Draft EA/IS was released for public comment from Dec. 13, 2013, to Jan. 13, 2014. Comments received were addressed in the final environmental document. The Final EA/IS was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and the California Environmental Quality Act and is available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=15761.
