Comment Period Extended for the Cool Cave Quarry Public Safety, Land Reclamation and Mining Lease Project Draft Environmental Document

On March 14, 2005, the Bureau of Reclamation released for public review and comment the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Cool Cave Quarry Land Lease. The comment period has been extended to Friday, March 25, 2005.

Written comments on the Draft EA must be received by closing of business on Friday, March 25, 2005. Please mail comments to Ms. Mary Grim, Environmental Specialist, Bureau of Reclamation, Central California Area Office, 7794 Folsom Dam Road, Folsom, CA 95630-1799. Comments may also be faxed to 916-989-7208 or e-mailed to mgrim@mp.usbr.gov.

A public workshop will be held to receive comments on the Draft EA on Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Pilot Hill Grange Hall, 1701 Highway 193, Cool, California, from 3:30 to 7 p.m.

The Draft EA is available at www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=1686. A hard copy may be requested by calling 916-978-5204. The Draft EA addresses impacts for entering into a 10-year lease with Teichert Aggregates for 16 acres of Federal land adjacent to the Cool Cave Quarry. The document describes the environmental effects of the no action and an action alternative that proposes limestone removal, reclamation, and stabilization of previously mined areas.
