Reclamation Seeks Public Comment on Nelson Dike Safety Modification

BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Bureau of Reclamation is seeking review and comment on the Draft Environmental Assessment for the proposed Safety of Dams (SOD) Modification to Nelson Reservoir Dikes, located in Phillips County approximately 25 miles northeast of Malta, Mont.

Reclamation proposes to correct seepage-related safety deficiencies for the two largest dikes at Nelson Reservoir. A Draft EA for the proposed modification has been prepared and is available for public comment until December 11, 2013. The public can access the Draft EA on Reclamation's website at http://www.usbr.gov/gp/mtao/nelson/.

Brent Esplin, Montana Area Manager, said, "I look forward to engaging the public and stakeholders to receive their input regarding this important upcoming project."

A series of public meetings will be held to explain the project and receive comment.

  • Glasgow – Cottonwood Inn & Suites, Nov. 12; 6:30 – 8 p.m.
  • Malta – City Hall, Nov. 13; 6:30 – 8 p.m.
  • Chinook – Chinook Motor Inn, Nov. 14; 6:30 – 8 p.m.
