Status of Recreational Facilities in Reclamation’s Mid-Pacific Region

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – With the re-opening of the federal government, the Bureau of Reclamation announces the status of the Mid-Pacific Region’s recreational facilities and amenities available to the public.

Shasta Dam: The Shasta Lake Visitor Center is open, and dam tours have resumed.

Lake Berryessa: All Reclamation-operated recreation areas/facilities are open, including boat launches, day use areas, trails, restrooms and the Dufer Point Visitor Center. (Please note that the north side of Oak Shores Day Use area is closed for the winter as previously scheduled.)

The National Public Lands Day native plant restoration event will be held as planned on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon (meet at the Pope Creek Bridge parking lot).

The following concession-operated recreation areas are open:

• Markley Cove Resort: Offers the following services – boat launching, boat and jet-ski rentals, boat slip rentals and fueling service as well as vacation cabin rentals, day use and a general store. For information, please visit http://www.markleycoveresort.com/ or call 707-966-2134.

• Pleasure Cove Marina: Offers the following services – boat launching, boat and jet-ski rentals, boat slip rentals and fueling service as well as RV and tent camping, vacation cabin rentals, day use and a general store. • Steele Canyon Recreation Area: Offers the following services – boat launching, camping and day use. For information, please call 707-966-9179.

• Spanish Flat Recreation Area: Offers the following services – camping and day use. For information, please call 707-966-9192.

New Melones Lake: The following government-operated recreation areas/facilities are open: trails, restrooms in currently open areas, and the boat launches in the Tuttletown and Glory Hole Recreation Areas. For additional information, please visit http://www.usbr.gov/mp/ccao/newmelones/ or call 209-536-9094. Please note that the winter season recreation area entrance gate hours are now 4 a.m. to 9 p.m.

• The New Melones Lake Marina is open. For information on services available at the marina, please call 209-785-3300.

• The following areas/facilities at New Melones will reopen on Friday, Oct. 18:

• Campgrounds: In the Tuttletown Recreation Area, Manzanita Campground (sites 7-125) and Fiddleneck Group Camp; in the Glory Hole Recreation Area, Big Oak Campground (sites 90-144).

• Day Use Areas: In the Tuttletown Recreation Area, Lupine and Heron Point day use areas; in the Glory Hole Recreation Area, Black Bart and Buck Brush day use areas.

• The New Melones Visitor Center will reopen on Oct. 18 under winter visitor hours: Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Please note that the following events will take place at New Melones Lake as previously scheduled:

• The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Posse (horse trail ride special use permit) will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 8 a.m.

• The Mormon Creek Paddle (kayak interpretive program) will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. at the Tuttletown Recreation Area.

East Park and Stony Gorge Reservoir Recreation Areas: Both areas are closed for the season.

Status of Reclamation lands managed by others:

• Folsom Lake State Recreation Area: Folsom Lake and Lake Natoma are open with services provided by California State Parks. Please visit http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=500.

• Auburn State Recreation Area: Auburn Dam Project Lands are open with services provided by California State Parks. Please visit http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=500.
