BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $36,314,140.87 contract to National Electric Coil, Inc., of Columbus, Ohio for work on the generators in Yellowtail Power Plant in south-central Mont.

The work consists of removing existing generator stator cores; furnishing, installing and testing new generator stator cores; removing existing generator armature windings; furnishing, installing and testing new generator armature windings; removing, refurbishing, reinstalling, and testing generator field poles; furnishing generator spare parts for armature windings and stator cores; re-designing and modifying generator ventilation; and designing, furnishing, testing, and installing new generator air coolers.

"This contract represents the continued safety and reliability of Yellowtail Power Plant, a critical power facility for the West," said Great Plains Regional Director Mike Ryan. "The work will provide needed jobs while modernizing the nation’s infrastructure."

Yellowtail Powerplant, with an installed capacity of 250,000 kilowatts, provides low cost power and supplies expanding power needs for residential and commercial use in a wide surrounding area. The widely varying releases from the powerplant are regulated by the Yellowtail Afterbay Dam, constructed 2.2 miles downstream. The afterbay, with a capacity of 3140 acre-feet, minimizes downstream fluctuations in the Bighorn River by providing a uniform daily flow, leveling the peaking power discharges from the powerplant.
