ELEPHANT BUTTE, NM – The Rio Grande between Elephant Butte and Caballo Reservoirs is receding as storms move out of the area.

The flow is now within the 5,000 cubic-feet-per-second channel capacity.

Evacuations continue in Williamsburg and Los Palomas. Some Truth or Consequences residents are now being allowed to return home. Highway 187 is closed where a sinkhole opened up. Highway 51 is also closed due to flood damage.

Caballo Reservoir is only at 10 percent of capacity as it begins to receive some of this flood water.

On the Pecos River, flows continue to recede this afternoon. Inflow into all reservoirs continues but is declining. The flows out of Avalon Dam continue to decline as well. The flow through Carlsbad is well within the channel capacity.
