For Release: April 29, 2004

Salt Lake City - The Bureau of Reclamation's Upper Colorado Regional Office announced today an extension of the closure of the Flaming Gorge Visitor Center through Thursday, May 6, 2004, to accommodate minor remodeling and equipment installation efforts. Workers employed at the dam site, recently began the process of laying new carpet in the visitor center, as well as installing some new video equipment that is used during public tours of the facility.

"As we continue with our efforts to touch-up the public visitor center, it's become apparent that we will need to extend the closure for yet another week," said Warren Blanchard, facility manager of Flaming Gorge Dam. "We've attempted to schedule our remodeling efforts to coincide with the low visitation periods during the month of April so that the public who visit the dam are inconvenienced as little as possible."

The Flaming Gorge Visitors Center is jointly operated by the Bureau of Reclamation and the Forest Service and is open daily from 9:00 a.m., MST, to 5:00 p.m., MST. Prior to entering the visitor center and/or touring the Flaming Gorge Dam, visitors must pass through security screening. Bags, backpacks, and ladies purses are not allowed inside of the dam.
