Reclamation Hosts Annual C.A.S.T. for Kids Event at Black Canyon Park as Part of ‘Let’s Move Outside’

EMMETT, Idaho - Children with wide-ranging disabilities will have the chance to reel in a good time as they join enthusiastic volunteers at the C.A.S.T. for Kids event on Aug. 17, at Black Canyon Park, located on East Black Canyon Highway northeast of Emmett, Idaho.
C.A.S.T., which stands for “Catch A Special Thrill,” offers children with disabilities and terminal illnesses a day of fishing and boating while under the watchful eye of community volunteers. The event also highlights First Lady Michelle Obama's “Let's Move Outside” initiative aimed at solving childhood obesity by encouraging healthy diets and more physical activity on America's public lands and waterways.
"C.A.S.T. for Kids is a wonderful event for participants and their families," said Erika Lopez, Public Involvement Specialist for the Bureau of Reclamation. “This is truly a unique event that creates memories for a lifetime and I’m very happy to be a part of it."
The children invited to the event are between 7-16 years old and have a variety of physical or developmental disabilities. Each participant receives fishing gear, a tee-shirt, and a C.A.S.T. hat. When the young anglers are done fishing, they will be treated with lunch and an awards ceremony. The Gem County Sheriff's Department will be on hand to provide emergency services if necessary.
The volunteer partners include: C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation, Bureau of Reclamation, Idaho BASS Club, and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The State Bass Anglers societies work under the large umbrella of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society which includes volunteers from the Idaho BASS Club, Idaho Jet Boater's Association, and other local fishermen who provide fishing boats and professional expertise.
