Record of Decision Issued for the San Joaquin River Exchange Contractors Water Authority for 2014-2038, Water Transfer Program

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation and the San Joaquin River Exchange Contractors Water Authority announce the release of the Record of Decision for the Water Transfer Program for the San Joaquin River Exchange Contractors Water Authority for 2014-2038. Reclamation and the Exchange Contractors have selected Alternative D, which will extend and expand the existing water transfer program and involve the annual development and transfer and/or exchange of up to 150,000 acre-feet of substitute Central Valley Project water.

The additional water will be a maximum of 100,000 acre-feet of conserved water and a maximum of 50,000 acre-feet from temporary land fallowing provided by Exchange Contractors to other CVP contractors, to Reclamation’s Refuge Water Supply Program, and/or State Water Project contractors. The selected action was identified as the preferred alternative in the Final Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report, which was released on January 31, 2013.

Reclamation is the lead federal agency for this action under the National Environmental Policy Act, and the Exchange Contractors Water Authority is the lead state agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
