For Release: July 16, 2013

FRESNO, Calif. -- The Bureau of Reclamation has released for public review draft environmental documents for the second segment of the Contra Costa Canal Replacement Project, which involves installation of a 5,500-foot length of pipe near Rock Slough in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

The second segment of the project required supplemental environmental analysis because several elements were added to the original canal replacement project, including a flood control structure at Rock Slough, new piping at the water district’s Pumping Plant No. 4, and a system to manage groundwater during construction.

Reclamation approved the original Contra Costa Canal Replacement Project, which consists of enclosing 3.97 miles of the Contra Costa Canal in a 10-foot diameter pipe. Reclamation approved the project in 2007 and 1,900 feet had been completed by 2009.

The Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, and are available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=14361. If you encounter problems accessing the document online, please call 916-978-5100 or e-mail mppublicaffairs@usbr.gov.
