BISMARCK, N.D. -- Reclamation and the Spirit Lake Tribe, Indian Health Services and Bartlett and West Engineering, today celebrated the official turning of the tap on the Spirit Lake Water Treatment Plant in Warwick, N.D. The groundwater is the source for the Spirit Lake Rural Water system (SLRW), and the new water treatment plant addresses water quality issues and increases the Tribe's system's capacity.

"We look forward to continuing the great working relationship between Reclamation and the Spirit Lake Water Resource Department, which has been instrumental to moving this project forward," said Dakotas Area Office Manager, Richard Long. "Congratulations on everyone's hard work and on the great job in getting this portion of the project completed."

Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Reclamation provided $7.1 Million in funding for a Pilot Study, Well Field Study & Development projects, and all the funding for the Design and Construction of the Water Treatment Plant.

Since the project began in 1987, Spirit Lake Rural Water (SLRW) has received approximately $33.8 million of Reclamation funding to construct the SLRW system.

The SLRW system has approximately 700 service connections serving residents of the reservation and the Water Treatment Plant was designed to meet all of the tribe's current needs for the entire reservation. The plant can be expanded in the future to cover additional population growth if needed.
