For Release: June 12, 2013

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation today released environmental documents for the Tulare Irrigation District Canal Modernization Project, which is being partially funded through the Reclamation’s California Bay-Delta Restoration Program: Agricultural Water Conservation and Efficiency Grants Program.

The project will assist the district in reducing seepage and evaporation losses, as well as improve its overall water-use efficiency by installing flow meters and automated control structures at targeted areas on its distribution system in Tulare County, Calif.

Under the Agricultural Water Conservation and Efficiency Grants program, Reclamation provides cost-share funding on projects that increase the capability or success rate of on-farm water conservation or water use efficiency projects that can be undertaken by farmers and ranchers through irrigation system improvements and irrigation efficiency enhancements.

A Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Environmental Assessment (EA) were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available at: http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=13841. If you encounter problems accessing the documents online, please call 916-978-5100 or e-mail mppublicaffairs@usbr.gov.
