SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation today released final environmental documents for restoring 20 acres of Kern River floodplains at the Panorama Vista Preserve in Kern County, Calif.

Reclamation is providing $235,000 from the Central Valley Project Habitat Restoration Program to River Partners, a nonprofit corporation, to restore 14 acres of alkali scrub and six acres of riparian forest habitat.

The Panorama Vista Preserve restoration would benefit federally listed endangered and threatened species such as the Bakersfield cactus, San Joaquin kit fox, blunt-nosed leopard lizard, Tipton’s kangaroo rat, Buena Vista Lake shrew, Least Bell’s Vireo and the Southwestern willow flycatcher. These species and their habitats have been impacted by the Central Valley Project, and restoration or enhancement of their habitat is in keeping with goals of the HRP.

The final Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=11810.
