Reclamation Announces Targeted Closures at Recreation Areas at East Park and Stony Gorge Reservoirs

ELK CREEK, Calif. - The Bureau of Reclamation will reduce visitor services and close portions of East Park and Stony Gorge reservoirs due to budget reductions. The majority of recreation sites at both reservoirs will remain open throughout the season and there will be no reductions of services or closures over the Memorial Day, Independence Day or Labor Day weekends.  The following areas are closed until further notice:

Stony Gorge Reservoir:

  • Fig Orchards 1 and 2, Stony Point, Hidden Point and Elk Creek Hill.

East Park Reservoir:

  • Ladoga (east side of the reservoir):  Big Oak, Rattlesnake Cove, Other Side, Palomino, Rodeo 1, 2 and 3, Sidewinder, Serenity, Last Chance, Sleepy Hollow, Rocky Ridge and Pig Pen.
  • Stonyford (west side of the reservoir): This area will be closed until further notice.

All other park areas are open including the group campgrounds. Reservations for group camping are required and are made through www.recreation.gov.

All recreation sites at Stony Gorge and East Park reservoirs will be open for the federal holiday weekends:

Memorial Day weekend                      Thursday, May 23, 7 a.m. – Tuesday, May 28, noon
Independence Day weekend              Wednesday, July 3, 7 a.m. – Monday, July 8, noon
Labor Day weekend                           Friday, August 30, 7 a.m. – Tuesday, September, 3, noon
