Roland Springer to Head the Upper Snake Field Office

Reclamation Selects Jerry Cheek as the Supervisory Civil Engineer at the Upper Snake Field OfficeBurley, Idaho - The Bureau of Reclamation has selected Roland Springer to serve as the new assistant area manager for leading the Upper Snake Field Office (USFO) where he will oversee the management and operation of Reclamation facilities in eastern Idaho and western Wyoming.

The USFO in Burley, Idaho, is part of the Snake River Area Office (SRAO) headquartered Boise, Idaho.

Springer, a Salt Lake City native, served in Washington, DC, as a liaison officer for Reclamation's Lower Colorado Regional Office in Boulder City, Nev. He also served a two-year detail in the U.S. House of Representatives for the Water and Power Subcommittee of the House Resources Committee and on the Western Caucus. His experience also includes working on multi-state Colorado River management issues for Reclamation's Upper Colorado Regional Office in Salt Lake City.

"Roland has 20 years experience in managing engineering and natural resources programs, and he has strong leadership and technical skills," Snake River Area Office Manager Jerry Gregg said. "We're very happy to have him as a part of our Reclamation team."

Most recently, Springer worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), a large management consulting and accounting firm, where he managed projects that dealt with program management, internal controls and management improvement initiatives for the U.S. Department of the Interior and other federal agencies.

Springer has a bachelor's degree and master's degree in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also has a master's degree in Business Administration from Cornell University. He is a licensed professional engineer and a certified project management professional.

The USFO manages six projects, eight dams, and two powerplants in eastern Idaho and western Wyoming. The projects provide for the delivery of irrigation water, hydroelectric generation, flood control, and recreation opportunities.
