For Release: April 05, 2013

FRESNO, Calif. – As a result of continuing dry conditions in California, the Bureau of Reclamation announces a decrease in the Water Year 2013 Central Valley Project water supply allocation for water service contractors in the Friant Division.

Currently, precipitation in the Upper San Joaquin River watershed at Huntington Lake is about 19 inches, which is 53 percent of average. Additionally accumulated natural river flow to date for WY 2013 for the Upper San Joaquin Basin is about 340,000 acre-feet or 19 percent of average.

Friant Division contractors’ water supply is delivered from Millerton Reservoir on the upper San Joaquin River. The first 800,000 acre-feet of water supply is considered Class 1 and the next 1.4 million acre-feet is considered Class 2. The Friant Division water supply allocation is decreased from 65 to 55 percent of
Class 1. Class 2 water remains at 0 percent.

Reclamation is making this determination after consulting with the Friant Division Contractors and in consideration of San Joaquin River Restoration Program releases from Millerton Reservoir. Reclamation expects to receive the manual snow survey data from the California Department of Water Resources the week of April 8, and based on that data, an additional adjustment to the allocation may be necessary.

Water supply updates will be made as appropriate and will be posted on http://www.usbr.gov/mp/pa/water. For additional information, please contact the Public Affairs Office at 916-978-5100 (TTY 916-978-5608) or email mppublicaffairs@usbr.gov.
