A $405,602 contract for the replacement of the wire rope carrier system at Hoover Dam was awarded May 14, by the Bureau of Reclamation to Superior-Lidgerwood-Mundy Corp.

The contractor, certified small business enterprise based in Superior, Washington, will replace the cable to ensure the load-bearing integrity of the system, the primary component of the 150-ton cableway at the dam.

The wire rope required for the carrier system is very specialized and will meet or exceed specifications for the original cable installed in 1932.

Completion of the work is anticipated by October 2004. This work will not affect Hoover Dam operations, water operations, the Lake Mead water level, or visitor tours.
