Motorists planning to drive across Hoover Dam during the Memorial Day holiday weekend should anticipate heavy and slower-than-normal traffic.

Friday night, May 28; Saturday, May 29; and Monday, May 30 are projected to be the busiest traffic days at the dam, as people drive to and leave Las Vegas for the holiday weekend. On these days, motorists should have flexible schedules to allow for the extra time necessary, possibly two hours, to cross the dam. The peak traffic hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Pacific Daylight Saving Time). However, drivers traveling at other times should expect delays as well, but for somewhat shorter periods than at peak travel hours.

Hoover Dam police will be managing traffic and visitors throughout the holiday period. Motorists are reminded that the speed limit approaching and across the dam is only 15 miles per hour, and will be strictly enforced.

Post Sept. 11, 2001, vehicle restrictions remain in effect. Commercial trucks, and buses with luggage, are prohibited from crossing the dam. Recreational vehicles, U-Haul type trucks, boats and trailers, and pickups with camper shells or other coverings will be inspected before being allowed across the dam. All vehicles, including passenger cars and their contents, are always subject to inspection.

Hoover Dam and all concession operations at the dam will be open for tours through the holiday. The parking garage is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Visitor Center is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Discovery tours are available from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Memorial Day Observance From mid-morning until about noon on Sunday, May 30, the road across Hoover Dam will be closed to all traffic to allow approximately 500 members of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club and their associates to conduct their sixth annual ceremonial Memorial

Day motorcycle ride across Hoover Dam. At about 11 a.m., the group will ride from the Arizona side of the dam to the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. Hoover Dam Police officers, National Park Service rangers and park police, and Boulder City police will escort the group during the procession.
