For Release: February 23, 2005

On Wednesday, February 23, water releases from Davis Dam will be gradually reduced throughout the day to determine the level at which the Mohave Generating Station can no longer divert water from the Colorado River.

The releases, currently averaging about 2,000 cubic feet per second (cfs), are scheduled to be reduced every two hours, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Mountain Standard Time. They are scheduled to drop to 1,450 cfs by 2:00 p.m MST, but could be reduced to as low as 1,300 cfs after that if necessary.

Releases from Davis Dam have been cut back because of reduced water demands and high flows into the Colorado River from the Bill Williams and Gila Rivers. These conditions have caused Lake Havasu to rise to within six inches of its maximum elevation. Davis Dam releases were reduced last week to prevent spills from Lake Havasu, and may have to be reduced further depending on future inflows and water demand. The low releases from Davis Dam are expected to continue into mid-March.

Following is the projected release schedule for Davis Dam for February 23. Please note that these releases are subject to change. Information on current releases from Davis Dam can be found at www.usbr.gov/lc/riverops.html under "Current Conditions."

Midnight to 10:00 a.m.: 2,000 cfs

10:00 a.m. to noon: 1,790 cfs

Noon to 2:00 p.m.: 1,620 cfs

2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: 1,450 cfs

4:00 p.m. - : 2,000 cfs**

** If necessary, the flows will be reduced to 1,300 cfs from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., then return to the 2,000 cfs level.
