Releases in the Lower American River to Increase

The Bureau of Reclamation will increase releases in the Lower American River below Nimbus Dam from 2,500 to 8,000 cubic per feet second (cfs) on Sunday, February 20, 2005, at 8 p.m. The increase is for flood control and fishery management. The 8,000-cfs flow will continue for 2 days, ending Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at 12 a.m.

The release schedule (subject to change) will start and stop on the following dates and times: 02/20/05, 8 p.m - 12 a.m., 2,500 cfs to 8,000 cfs; 02/22/05, 8 p.m. - 12 a.m., 8,000 cfs to 6,000 cfs; 02/23/05, 8 p.m. - 12 a.m., 6,000 cfs to 4,000 cfs; 02/24/05, 8 p.m. - 12 a.m., 4,000 cfs to 3,500 cfs; 02/25/05, 8 p.m. - 12 a.m., 3,500 cfs to 3,000 cfs; and 02/26/05, 8 p.m. - 12 a.m., 3,000 cfs to 2,500 cfs.

Recreationists on or along the Lower American River are advised to exercise caution due to higher and colder river flow conditions.
