JUNCTION CITY, Calif. – The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $2.14 million contract in support of the Trinity River Restoration Program (TRRP). A contract for the Upper Junction City Channel Rehabilitation Project (Project) has been awarded to T. L. Peterson of Red Bluff, Calif.

The Project is located on the mainstem Trinity River in Junction City, Calif. The project area is approximately ½-mile-long on the right and left banks of the Trinity River and encompasses both private and public lands.

Both the rehabilitation project and the TRRP’s restoration objective are to enhance river processes and increase salmonid habitat as described in the December 19, 2000, Record of Decision for the Trinity River Mainstem Fishery Restoration Environmental Impact Statement.

The overall purpose of the Project is to increase habitat for salmon at all flow levels while maintaining existing adult habitat.

“The Bureau of Reclamation, along with all the TRRP’s partners, is very pleased that this contract has been awarded,” remarked Northern California Area Office Manager Brian Person. “Completion of the Upper Junction City site will be another important step in restoring the Trinity River fishery, and this particular design was the result of significant stakeholders input.”

The project is scheduled to begin in July 2012 and is expected to be completed in March 2013.
