The Delta Cross Channel Gates Will Remain Open until Further Notice

Media Contact: Pete Lucero, MP Region Public Affairs Officer, 916-978-5100, plucero@usbr.gov

For Release: May 30, 2012

On Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., while attempting to close the Delta Cross Channel (DCC) gates after the holiday weekend, one of the two gates could not be closed due to mechanical problems. As a result, both gates will remain in the open position until the gate can be repaired. A schedule for the gate repair has not yet been determined.

The DCC is located in Walnut Grove, California, and is a feature of the Reclamation’s Central Valley Project Delta Division. The DCC is a controlled diversion channel on the left bank of the Sacramento River, about 30 miles downstream of Sacramento, which diverts water from the river into a branch of the Mokelumne River.  Typically, the gates are opened for the Memorial Day weekend and subsequent weekends through June 15. The gates remain closed on weekdays. From June 16 through summer, the gates are generally open.
