MEDIA ADVISORY: Project Completion Ceremony Announced for the Delta-Mendota Canal/California Aqueduct Intertie

SACRAMENTO,Calif.--The Bureau of Reclamation, in partnership with the San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority (SLDMWA) and the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), will celebrate the completion of the Delta-Mendota Canal/California Aqueduct Intertie Project, on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. With completion, the Intertie will connect the Delta-Mendota Canal and the California Aqueduct to relieve Delta-Mendota Canal conveyance limitations, allow for maintenance and repair activities and provide the flexibility to respond to Central Valley Project and State Water Project emergency operations.

The Department of the Interior committed $15.8 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the completion of the Intertie. CALFED funding was $8.8 million. The remaining funding came from contributed funds and Reclamation budget. The total project cost is $29 million. The new facility is located approximately five miles west of the city of Tracy, Calif.

Westbound I-205 to I-580: Take Exit 63 for Grant Line Road toward Byron, turn right at W Grant Line Road. Be prepared to turn right immediately before crossing the Delta-Mendota Canal.

Eastbound I-580: Take Exit 63 for Grant Line Road toward Byron, turn left at W Grant Line Road. Be prepared to turn right immediately before crossing the Delta-Mendota Canal.
