The Bureau of Reclamation will be trimming trees and conducting overhead line maintenance work on the C-Line power lines which run from Black Canyon Dam about 17 miles across the valley to the C-Line Pumping Plant. The activity will occur from March 19-29, 2012.

During a recent inspection of the power line, Reclamation officials determined that tree trimming is necessary to maintain appropriate and safe clearance between the power lines and vegetation.

"Tree trimming keeps foliage from coming into contact with the power lines, which is a major cause of power outages," said Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist Steve Coulter. "Flaggers will be on hand to direct roadway traffic during the trimming operation."

The trimming operation is expected to occur daily between 7:00 am - 5:30 pm. The tree trimming operation will not occur during the weekend.

Black Canyon Dam, which is part of the Boise Project, was completed in 1924. It provides irrigation water to roughly 1,760 farms in Gem and Payette counties delivered by Black Canyon Irrigation District. The dam's power plant generates about 62 million kilowatt hours annually. The C-Line Pumping Plant has five pumps which pump the water from the Black Canyon Main Canal and lift it 90 feet to the C-Line Canal East behind the plant.
