For Release: February 28, 2012

The Bureau of Reclamation has scheduled a public session to negotiate a Safety of Dams Program repayment contract with Casitas Municipal Water District for Casitas Dam on the Ventura Project, located in Ventura County, California.

The repayment contract with the Casitas Municipal Water District is for repayment of 15 percent of the more than $34.9 million cost associated with corrective actions for needed Safety of Dams work at Casitas Dam. In 2000, Reclamation completed structural upgrades, including strengthening the toe of the dam and the outlet works, constructing an earthen berm to buttress the dam, and widening the dam crest to ensure greater stability in case of earthquake.

The negotiation session will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at 10 a.m., in the South-Central California Area Office, 1243 N Street, Fresno, California.

The public is welcome to attend and will have the opportunity to comment. Participation instructions will be provided at the beginning of the session, along with pertinent documents. For additional information, please contact Rena Ballew, Repayment Specialist, at 559-487-5504 (TTY 800-735-2929), fax 559-487-5397, or e-mail rballew@usbr.gov.
